Highlights of 2007 Golf Events
For the first time ever, the Golf Marathon had to be postponed – because of near catastrophic weather. Weather conditions were so severe with high winds, that parks and schools experienced closings. So, at FCA we exercised creativity and welcomed partnering with Fredericksburg FCA, sharing their Marathon day at Meadows Farms golf course a little later in the spring. We had a great time going back to where we played our Marathon for a number of years before. We do, however, look forward to returning to the hospitality and lush conditions of Hidden Creek Country Club in May 2008.
As in past years, proceeds from the 2007 Golf Marathon helped to send over 800 kids to FCA Camps. Our Salisbury golf camp had over 20 golfers. These camps are taught by PGA and LPGA professionals, assisted by volunteers who love golf and our kids.
The Chick-Fil-A One Way 2 Play Golf Classic had a full field with over 132 players. We returned to South Riding GC, which hosted us well for a 2nd year, and added to the great enjoyment of the Chick-Fil-A lunch, Outback dinner, and usual warm FCA treatment of our players. The winning team was led by Vance Welch (MD FCA Staff), but was not able to schedule their trip earned as winners, to the National FCA Scramble in November, at TPC Sawgrass, Ponte Vedra, FL (host of the PGA Players Championship).
FCA hosted Fairfax County School coaches at Reston National Golf Club, in November. Despite a cold and rainy day for a 2nd year in a row, over 40 coaches came to play in the 18 hole scramble, eat dinner, and claim a host of prizes and free resources. FCA wanted to show our coaches how much we appreciate what they do all year for our kids in school and athletics.
